James Bryan McKathan, affectionately known to most as Luke McKathan, was a born horseman from Andalusia, Alabama. Growing up on a cotton farm, he felt a deep connection to horses and left home at the tender age of 13 to pursue what he imagined his destiny to be. His journey led him to discover horse racing, initially with Standardbreds. Luke’s passion for horses soon shifted to Quarter Horse racing, and he embarked on a new career as a trainer. His horses galloped across the nation, competing at prestigious tracks like Ruidoso Downs, Pompano Park, and Seminole Downs. In 1968, Luke made a significant transition in his career, venturing into Thoroughbred racing. He always had a passion for horses and soon would leave his mark in just about every part of the racing community. Luke McKathan’s entrepreneurial spirit soon extended beyond horse racing, as he developed his own line of supplements, marketed under the brand “McKathan’s.” He created a horse liniment and gave it to fellow horsemen throughout the years, in 1991 McKathan Products INC. was officially on the market, and helping the horse community. To this day Luke McKathan’s products reach equine enthusiasts around the globe forever keeping his legacy alive, and showing how his love for horses will far exceeds Mr. Lukes life. These products, still family-owned and operated, embody the McKathan’s lifestyle of never giving up, it is not just a horse liniment, but a way of life inspired by the legendary figure,“Papa Luke.”
